local performers, and provides free quality live entertainment

SONGS AND COURAGE IN A TIME OF CIVIL WAR
Reenactors of the 138th Pennsylvania Regiment, remembered
for valor at the Battle of Monocacy, present soldiers' letters,
and songs sung around the camp fires and home fires, including
"Dixie,” “Bonnie Blue Flag,” and
"Battle Cry of Freedom." On the antique melodian,
producer GARY SCHWARTZ
accompanies this cavalcade of heartbreak and bravery, saluting
both North and South.

REDEMPTION RITUAL: INVITING THE ANCESTORS
TO BE PRESENT
This moving presentation was conceived by DOUGLAS
McARTHUR JOHNSON and is presented by JAH
KENTE INTERNATIONAL. It features Harlem
Renaissance poetry by Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, James
Weldon Johnson and others. Stirring words illuminate the
African-American experience from Mother Africa to the New
World, and from tribulation to glorious triumph. RUFUS.

NEN DAIKO: THE POWER AND BEAUTY
OF TAIKO DRUMMING
The fabulous drummers from the Ekoji Buddhist Temple present
kumi daiko – ensemble drumming – played on large
Japanese drums with choreographed movement. Their performance
embodies the bold energy and athleticism characteristic
of this mesmerizing musical form. They will present traditional
festival songs as well as more contemporary compositions.

and a chance to get up and dance in this riotous and nostalgic
cabaret.

THE 2008 U.S. ARMY SOLDIER SHOW
Each year soldiers of all ranks, and from
commands all over the world, come together in Washington
to create a new edition of the Soldier Show. They then go
on a globe-trotting tour, bringing music and smiles to their
fellow troops. Tonight we get a special advance preview
as cast members demonstrate some of the star-power talent
which won them roles in the 2008 cast.

THE OLD LANDMARK! AN EVENING OF GOSPEL MUSIC
This is a play about revered early standard gospel songs
and not-so-familiar gospel chants and dances. The
players will will shake the rafters and warm your hearts
in this salute to the history of gospel music. MISSIONARY
CHARISMA WOOTEN of Mary's First Child, a.d.,
is the author, narrator and producer of this moving choral
and dance tribute.
