one half-hour prior to performance, on a first-come-first-served

MARINE STRING QUARTET
The Quartet, an ensemble within the Marine Band,
presents chamber concerts and appears frequently
at the White House for official functions. Established
by an Act of Congress in 1798, "The President's
Own" Band is America's oldest continuously
active professional musical organization. The band's
legendary 17th Director John Philip Sousa conducted
the Band at the National Theatre in 1889.

SONG FOR AUTUMN: DREAMWEAVER
A diva with an extraordinary vocal range matched by
a remarkable emotional power, SAPPHIRA
sings heart-to-heart and soul-to-soul. With a chill
in the air, leaves begin to fall and we turn inward
with cozy fire-place remembrances and wistful wishes.
On the evening’s program among others: “Stormy
Weather,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,”
“Memory” from CATS, “Hero,”
“O Mio Babbino Caro” and “The Way
We Were.”

This smooth-as-satin male a capella group
features melody, harmony and inspiration in a vibrant,
exciting blend. Their eclectic repertoire includes
gospel standards, “Angels Watching Over Me,”
pop hits, “Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow”
and original compositions. Singing with a resilience
of tone and purpose, they will encourage and re-energize
you with a certainty of hope and faith.

A HAWAIIAN CELEBRATION: OUR 50th STATE’S 50TH
BIRTHDAY!
Enjoy an enchanted evening with Halau Ho'omau I ka
Wai Ola O Hawai'i. The name means "through hula
and halau, we remain young at heart and full of life."
You will be invigorated by a vibrant evening of dance
and chant, accompanied by Hawaiian music, implements,
and dances of ancient and modern hula under the direction
of SUZ and Kumu Hula MANU IKAIKA.

BHARATANATYAM
Step into the exquisite world of Indian classical
dance, once the exclusive domain of Indian temple
dancers, but brought to us now by JANAKI RANGARAJAN
and her company. Facial expression, exquisite traditional
movement and music combine in this entrancing entertainment
in which symmetry of the body is highly prized. Colorful
costumes and golden ornaments with sparkling gems
enhance the performance.

HERE'S JULIUS! A GROUCHO MARX STORY
Groucho was, like Milton Berle, Red Skeleton, Jack
Benny, and Bing Crosby, a "founding father"
of our popular culture - successful in vaudeville,
radio, movies and TV. Tonight we learn of his life
with his brothers, mother, several wives and children
- and the personal aspirations which brought him joy
and remorse. BERNIE COHEN stars in
DANIEL MONT’s script, directed
by ED STARR.

CHU SHAN CHINESE OPERA
Celebrating the visit to DC of the Terra Cotta Warrior
Guardians of China's First Emperor, this evening of
engaging storytelling, lavish costumes and highly
stylized performance characterizes the elegance of
Chinese culture. Directed by the renowned ZHU
CHU SHAN, pageantry and beauty abound in
these performances: an ancient art brought vibrantly
to life!
