September 20 - THE MISADVENTURES OF DR. FRANK-N-FLUBBER, PH.D.

Dr. & Fluber Wacky scientist Dr. Frank-n-Flubber specializes in everything from chemistry to quantum physics in SYNETIC THEATRE'S delightful comedy. Watch as his dream creation emerges. Is it alive? Is it a robot? is it Flubber? With hilarious physical comedy, illusions, outrageous visual tricks and props, the story is told completely in mime, but with a zany twist!

Barrymore B Eagle gif (3k)BARRYMORE EAGLE the National Theatre mascot will be present to open our season and pose with the kids, so bring your camera! This is ARTS ON FOOT day. After the show, you can enjoy free family fun downtown with "open house" at many art galleries and theatres, plus food pavilions and music on outdoor stages, especially along the 7th Street Pennsylvania Quarter arts corridor.

September 27 - MAGICAL EXPERIENCE

Eric's magic smokeHe began doing magic when he was five, and three years ago ERIC REDMAN was named a “Warrior” by the elders of a Massi Marah village in Kenya for his dexterity with playing cards. His amazing tricks with rings and doves will keep children and adults mystified ~ and asking long after the performance, “How did he do that???”

October 4 - WEIRD, WILD & WONDERFUL

Mime, music, storytelling, audience participation and dazzling computer animation make RAND WHIPPLE'S BOX OF LIGHT THEATRE a unique treat. Enjoy stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, The Monkey and his Shadow, The Wind and the Sun and Little Miss Muffet, all with a special twist.

October 18 - ONE GOLD COIN

A healer arrives in a poor Central American village, wearing a mysterious gold coin around her neck. She promises to give it to someone who truly needs it. In INTERACT STORY THEATRE’S wise play, each person who receives the coin learns that the gold is most valuable when it is given away.

October 25 - THE NEARSIGHTED KNIGHT AND THE FAR-SIGHTED DRAGON

Knight & DragonAn unemployed Knight-Errant on a quest is looking for monsters, but shortsightedly charging everything he sees. With a career-minded Princess, and a homeless Dragon, he agrees to rescue the imprisoned King. All ends well, in THEATRE WEST VIRGINIA'S merry modern medieval musical, as the Knight gets a job, the Dragon a home, and the Princess a career.

November 1- THE SILLY CIRCUS

Stringed performers come into the center ring as the STRINGLING MARIONETTES stage a rollicking romp with an all-animal cast. Starring are an acrobatic mountain goat, a bear balancing a ball, and an exuberant elephant who blows bubbles. Whistles, bells, keyboard and horns accompany the troupe.

November 15 - THE SCIENCE SHOW

john with GuitarHow can juggling, comedy, magic and music explain lightning, gravity, safety glass and brain surgery? Kids and adults find out in JOHN HADFIELD'S wacky tour-de-farce exploration of our wonderful world, including a rap song about accidental inventions and a hair-raising experiment with electricity.

November 22 - THE SONG OF MULAN

Mulan with SwordWith beautiful costumes and props, and lovely songs, THEATRE IV presents the Chinese folk tale of the noble heroine Mulan. Taking the place of her ailing father, this brave girl joins the fierce army of Khan. Disguised as a man, she risks everything to maintain family honor. Enjoy this journey to the heart and soul of an ancient civilization.

December 6 - THE AMERICAN ADVENTURES OF LEWIS AND CLARK

Join the famed explorers as they open the way to the Pacific Ocean, discovering the beautiful people, plants, and animals of the far west in 1804. Meet the remarkable Sacagawea, the expedition's interpreter and peacemaker . THEATRE IV’S high-spirited musical will open your eyes and warm your heart.

December 13 - PUSS IN BOOTS

PuppetsMarionettes and shadow puppets together tell this timeless tale. Featured are kings and paupers, ogres and princesses ~ and of course a boot-clad cat who uses his wily wits to win favor and fortune for his master. The classical story presented by APPLAUSE UNLIMITED will delight the young as well as the young in heart.

January 24 - GENERAL FOOLISHNESS

General balancing plates In a briefing on "the latest in military technology," the General meets with one comic disaster after another. Whether blowing reveille while balancing atop an unsupported ladder or jumping rope on an "all terrain vehicle," PAUL HADFIELD captures his audience with good old fashioned madcap comedy.

January 31 - LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

In this CLASSIKA THEATRE puppet show, Red Riding Hood encounters fascinating characters not in the traditional fairy tale. Among them are the Timorous Rabbit, the Hungry Bear, and the Sly Fox. She discovers how the good animals of the forest band together, look after each other, and live bravely and harmoniously. Not a bad idea!

February 7- THE SHIRT OF HAPPINESS

Inspired by folk tales from Armenia and Italy, this is a lively story about a sad prince seeking the true meaning of happiness. He meets many zany and wonderful characters on his journey. The performers from INTERACT STORY THEATRE involve the audience in this funny and heartwarming production.

February 21 - THE RELUCTANT DRAGON

robert & DragonYoung Robert, one of the delightful BOB BROWN PUPPETS, learns of a dragon hiding in a cave, and goes to have a look. When word of Robert's discovery leaks out, Sir George the Dragonslayer sets out to conquer the “horrible beast.” Robert and Marmaduke, the frightened little dragon, must face the ferocious warrior.

February 28 - HARRIET TUBMAN AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

Harriet & Co. Share the adventurous life of a great American heroine whose courage and daring freed thousands from the bonds of slavery, and helped change the world. Her adventures and accomplishments are told vividly in this true-to-life and deeply moving musical play, presented by THEATRE IV.

Mar 6 - SOMETHING FOR NOTHING???

Kathleen & PuppetsIn these lively "trickster tales," ne’er do well miscreants scheme to reap rich benefits from their dishonest tricks. Puppeteer KATHLEEN JACOBS enlists kids (and their parents!) to play roles of those who outsmart the greedy puppet villains. The whole audience joins in to help our heroes triumph.

March 13 - REPTILE WORLD

Meet a collection of live, gentle, colorful and mesmerizing creatures from all over the world in one of our most amazing presentations. From MICHAEL SHWEDICK children learn thrilling lessons about the ecology, about themselves, and about these beguiling animal friends. Adults will be equally fascinated!

March 20 - RADIO WOOF

This rousing celebration of folklore features BILL WELLINGTON’S lively banjo music, funny folk songs, fancy fiddling, and fantastic storytelling. Bill enthusiastically shares his message that folklore, whether in the form of a familiar jump-rope-rhyme or a spellbinding story from another land, is a marvelous treasure we have inherited.

March 27 - BEN FRANKLIN AND HIS KITE

Ben & KiteIn June of 1752, Ben Franklin "shocked" the world with his discovery that lightning held electricity ~ and thus rendered scientists "thunderstruck!" THEATRE IV brings this great and fascinating American patriot, scientist and man of letters to the stage in a vibrant and entertaining play right from the pages of U.S. history.

April 3 - HORN'S PUNCH & JUDY SHOW

This traditional classic features an ornate Victorian stage and a script performed in Baltimore since 1897. Ten wooden puppets, painstakingly carved and hand painted in England, are the stars, guided by PROFESSOR HORN who also performs amazing feats of legerdemain. To top it all off, the performance includes the playing of a genuine vintage hand-cranked hurdy-gurdy.
